The Tyrone Area Food Bank, housed in Wesley United Methodist Church since 1977, is open every Thursday from 9:00A.M. until 10:30A.M. An evening session is also available on the second Wednesday of each month from 5:30P.M. until 7:00P.M. The Food Bank, which currently serves over 100 local families, is there to help people who for whatever reason just cannot afford to put quality food on their table. It is there for those who have been recently laid off from their job, for those who are faced with unexpected expenses such as medical bills or automotive repairs, and for those on low-income assistance whose funds have run out. For the past two years the food bank has provided vouchers so that recipients can purchase milk, eggs and margerine at the Save-A-Lot grocery store.
The Tyrone Food Bank serves the Tyrone and Bellwood-Antis school districts. It is supported by both state and federal programs and by donations from local businesses, civic groups, churches and individuals. Anyone wishing to use the food bank should bring a valid form of identification, and should enter the church by the side door located in the adjacent church parking lot.
